ART at Music Box Theatre

Taste. Money. Ego. And other fine arts.

If you thought that the 2 million dollar banana taped to a wall was a joke, then you’ll love ART! A one-room comedy featuring three old friends and a ridiculously expensive painting of white, painted on white… Is it art, or is it just the world’s priciest inside joke? Serge, Marc, and Yvan take a deep dive into the value of a piece of art, and what starts off as a simple debate, rapidly devolves into a clash of egos and resentment.

Starring Bobby Cannavale from The Motherf*cker with the Hat, and Glengarry Glen Ross, James Corden from One Man, Two Guvnors, and The History Boys, and Neil Patrick Harris from How I Met Your Mother, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. ART is a French play written by Yasmina Reza and translated into English by Christopher Hampton. It took home the Tony Award for Best Play during it’s Broadway debut in 1998 and is considered a modern classic by many, or… is it just art? The show previously ran on London’s West End from 1996 to 2004, featuring notable casts like Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay, and this will be the shows first time back on Broadway since 1998.

ART has a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes with no intermission. Performances begin August 28, 2025, and are scheduled for a strictly limited 17-week run, ending on December 21, 2025

“A VERY FUNNY COMEDY OF MANNERS. It’s an impeccably tailored piece of work.” – Ben Brantley, The New York Times

Bobby Cannavale

A New York native with Tony nominations for The Motherf*cker with the Hat in 2011 and in Mauritius from 2007, where he made his Broadway debut, plus a starring role alongside James Corden in Here We Are from 2023, Bobby Cannavale is no stranger to the stage. But if you’re not completely clued up on your Broadway trivia, don’t worry as you’re sure to recognize him from his Emmy-winning roles in Boardwalk Empire and Will & Grace or from the films The Irishman, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, or possibly from his Marvels’ role as Ant-Man. Along with his many acting roles, he also has voice credits from roles in the animated series BoJack Horseman and Big Mouth.

James Corden

Starring alongside Bobby in Stephen Sondheim’s final musical, Here We Are, James Corden is finally back on Broadway since his last Tony-winning appearance in One Man, Two Guvnors, back in 2012. This English comedian, actor, writer, producer, singer, and television host has a credit list as long as your arm. James, being an Englishman, started his career on the London theater scene with the 1996 musical Martin Guerre but is probably best known, across the pond at least, for his starring role in Gavin & Stacy. On this side of the pond, you’ll know him from The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS. He has also been the host of the Brit Awards, the Tony Awards, and the Grammy Award shows over the years. He has been nominated for a staggering 29 Primetime Emmy Awards and taken home 12 in total for The Late Late Show, Carpool Karaoke, and hosting the 70th Tony Awards.

Neil Patrick Harris

Winning a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Hedwig and the Angry Inch in 2014 and performing on Broadway in shows like Assassins from 2004 and before that, Cabaret from 2003, and made his Broadway debut in the David Auburn play Proof in 2002. On TV he received a Golden Globe nomination for his lead character role on the ABC series Doogie Howser, M.D., and you might recognize him as the lovable flirt-a-holic Barney Stinson on the CBS series How I Met Your Mother, earning him 4 Emmy nominations. If none of that rings any bells, then you may remember him from some more serious roles in films like Starship Troopers, The Smurfs, and Gone Girl. Neil has also hosted the the Academy Awards and the Tony Awards multiple times. Creative Team The French playwright and novelist, Yasmina Reza wrote ART in 1994, and the English translation by Christopher Hampton premiered on Londons West End in 1996 where it played right up to 2004. The Broadway production played just once in 1998 and took home a Tony Award for Best Play. The show is directed by Scott Ellis, who previously piloted the Broadway shows, Pirates! The Penzance Musical and You Can’t Take It With You, as well as the TV series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
